Orlando despidió a Van Gundy y a Otis Smith/Orlando fired Van Gundy and Otis Smith

Orlando Magic' franchise announced, by a press conference of the CEO Alex Martins, that dismissed the coach Stan Van Gundy and General Manager Otis Smith. A glance does not seem a good decision from Orlando.

Stan Van Gundy coached the team for 5 seasons and counting all of that seasons, the Magic had the 4th best record in the NBA, with 259 wins and 135 loses, with a .657 winning percentage, behind Los Angeles Lakers (.703), Boston Celtics (.692) and San Antonio Spurs (.687). In addition, Orlando had the 4th best record in Playoff also behind the named teams before.

2008/09 season was the best face of the Magic led by Van Gundy. He earned the third place in the East. In the first round they eliminated Philadelphia, who had won the first game at the Amway Arena. In conference semifinals faced the brand new champions, Boston Celtics, and played a great 7th game at TD Garden and removed them. LeBron James' team was the next target. The first two games were very hard and defined in the final seconds. In the first game, Rashard Lewis with 14.7 seconds hit a 3-pointer and sealed the game in Cleveland. In the second, Lebron beat the buzzer and tied the series. The Magic held the home court and beat Cleveland, the best contender in the East, to 4-2. Orlando reached his second NBA finals. This time against the Los Angeles Lakers. In the second match played in California, the Magic had the historic opportunity to regain the homecourt when Courtney Lee misses a shot at the buzzer after an alley-oop pass from Hedo Turkoglu. Finally, Orlando lost the final 4-1.

Otis Smith, former General Ganager, you may be criticized for having dismantled the roster that reached the Finals in 2009. The starting lineup was Jameer Nelson, Courtney Lee, Rashard Lewis, Hedo Turkoglu and Dwight Howard. More input from Mickael Pietrus and Marcin Gortat on the bench. An the end of that season, Turkoglu became a free agent. At the beginning of the next season, Orlando traded Lee, Alston and Battie for Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson. The Magic was eliminated by Boston in the Eastern Conference Final. In the 2010/11, Orlando did not make many movements in the pre-season, only Chris Duhon and Quentin Richardson was hired as free agents. Earlier in that season, Otis Smith moved too many chips, throwing the chemistry of the squad. He send Gortat, Pietrus and Carter in exchange for the return of Turkoglu, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark. He also sent Lewis to Washington for Gilbert Arenas. The "Agent Zero" ended up being a disaster. And that was the most criticized transfer by the people of Orlando.

There are so much rumors. Alex Martins wants a combo of General Manager and Coach with cmapionship experience. It's hard to get. Some names for the next coach are Brian Shaw, Nate Mc Millian or Jerry Sloan. In addition, the franchise will continue trying to convince Dwight Howard to sign a long-term contract. It will be a very lively season in Orlando.
